Life. Experiences. Musings.
I have started this blog to capture musings from throughout my life, it is my own miniature memoir of various experiences. I hope you enjoy reading the posts and if just one person seeks any degree of comfort in the articles they read I will consider it a tremendous success.
Cheaper Than Therapy!
I decided to set up this blog for three main reasons. Firstly, as a place to express my musings as I, just like everybody else in this world, muddle their way through life. Reflecting on things that occur as I go.
Secondly, to have a space to practice my hobby of writing.
Thirdly and most importantly of all because writing this blog is a lot
CHEAPER THAN THERAPY!

This blog began as a homage to my time spent working full time in the Hospitality industry and as a place for me to remember and reflect on the many interesting things that made up my day to day life. Hospitality is not considered a skilled job; and yet in my career I have met some of the bravest, most hard working and highly skilled professionals out there. It then progressed into a blog reflecting on life in general and what I can carry into my future from the experiences of my past.
My blog contains a selection of true stories from various places I have worked, lived or been educated. people's identities have been concealed to protect the privacy of both myself, and the people I have encountered in this magical thing called life.
The stories are plentiful so please join me on my journey...
ABOUT ME
As mentioned above I have worked in hospitality for 11 years, during this time I can say I have almost seen it all. Proposals, affairs, death, and everything in between.... However in the last 12 months I have really begun to question who am I? Having spent so much of my life working ridiculously long hours, missing out on partying, friends, family and even up to now; a chance at my own happiness. I spent lot of time looking in the mirror and wondering if I have lost myself along the way.

Why am I the way I am? what has shaped the person I have become? These questions are not intended for anyone reading to answer, they are intended for myself and I invite you along with me to find out.

This blog offers me the chance to practice a hobby that I have always loved, but never had the chance to truly experience; creative writing. They say that life begins at 30. Let's find out.
Duck Theory!
One of the very first things I was taught as a fresh faced nineteen year old beginning a career in hospitality was Duck Theory.
I remember sitting in my first team meeting, nervously side glancing my new colleagues, who's names I didn't know but they all seemed to know mine, when my boss walked in and loudly announced "DUCK THEORY!"
The concept of this somewhat bizarre turn of phrase is an absolute MUST in the hospitality industry. The meaning behind it is: If you imagine a duck swimming along a body of water it looks serene, and yet under the surface nobody can see, the duck is swimming frantically to stay afloat. It doesn't matter what disaster has befallen you or your team, as long as your guests only experience the serene calmness of a duck floating by.
Back then I smiled a little befuddled at this sudden concept that had been quite literally shouted into my life; and yet 11 years later I find myself living and sharing with my team this exact theory...
